History of Tentyne
History In 1982 Tentyne purchased their first West Highland White Terrier and we became established in this breed, but then in 1990 with help and advice from well known NZ Westie breeder Maureen Murphy, we decided to branch out from our Westies and bring the Sealyham back to NZ. There had been none here for many years and we at Tentyne decided to try and make the breed as popular as we could. We imported our first Sealyham in from Betty Campbell & Paul Ahern of Dodona Kennels in Australia. Her name was Dodona Dulcinea (Dulcie), then 12 months later we imported again from the Dodona Kennels a beautiful boy called Dodona Aieros (Mr Jones). From their first litter came NZ’s first ever Grand Champion Sealyham Gr. Ch. Top Secret of Tentyne (Taffy) gaining his title in 1997 & shown by Jane O’Connor. We then had a lovely litter of Gemstones, Tanzanite of Tentyne (Casey) stayed with us & the others, Topaz, Turquoise & Tigers Eye went to great homes in NZ.
In 1997 while attending Crufts with Maureen we approached Biddy Horne, well known for her Topstage Kennels and was lucky enough to purchase Jake, NZ Ch. Wilderson Mad about the Boy at Topstage (Imp UK). Jake sired some lovely puppies for us.
Then from Dulcie and Mr Jones came our pride and joy, Aust/NZ Ch. Toledo Sam of Tentyne. Please look at Sam’s page to see how successful our boy has been. He too sired some lovely kids, including Amer/Can Ch. Travelin Man of Tentyne. He also gave us his lovely son Samson, Ch. Tiki Tour of Tentyne.
We are still breeding lovely show dogs and wonderful loving pets and recently we were lucky enough to receive Percy, Eng/Am Ch. Penllyn Pimpernel ROM. Please have a look at the lovely Percy’s page. In the first three weeks of being in NZ Percy had already won a Best of Group & quickly added the title of NZ Ch to his already impressive name wining Dogzonline Best of Breed for two years.
We now have a lovely new boy, TJ - Amer/NZ Ch. Slyfox Ferrari Red at Fanfare (Imp USA) living here in NZ and doing very well for us at shows. Last year after only 2 months in the country TJ finished up as Top Sealyham and 8th Best Terrier in NZ. Please have a look at some of the lovely photos of TJ on his page.
