What judges said about Sam:

We would like to include here the critique by well-known & respected Terrier Specialist Judge, Mrs. Britta Roos-Börjeson of Sweden.Out of the 5 Sealyham terriers I found my BIS: A 5-year-old male in his prime, Aust/NZ Ch. Toledo Sam of Tentyne, who has the perfect combination of elegance and substance. He is very well balanced & low to ground. His head is long without coarseness in perfect balance with his body. His neck runs smoothly into well-laid shoulders. The straight top line ends with a perfect tail set, the tail set far enough forward, to give a powerful rear end with a beautiful bottom. His breast case leaves nothing to be desired, the chest that comes down between his front legs is just what you ask for. Hard coat & a beautiful expression are a few more attributes to mention. All this put together gives you a classically beautiful Sealyham terrier, seldom seen nowadays!!! The fantastic general impression gave Sam the BIS!

And, the critique from one time Sealyham Breeder & well known Terrier Judge, Mr. Adrian Walmsley of NSW. I have never expected to give a Sealy BIS at a Terrier Show. This is a splendid dog that excels in type and quality. He has a very good, if not startling head, & the rest of him is just what it should be. In the final analysis, he just kept going & looked better the more he went. This breed is possessed of so many lovely attributes, & this boy had them all. In particular, he has a super shoulder which gives a lovely neckline & whither & a real big bum behind him. He covered the ground superbly & kept his tail bang up all the time. A most deserving winner & a credit to his owner/breeder. This dog could hold his own anywhere in the world.

And from another well known and respected Terrier Specialist Judge, Paula Heikkinen-Lehkonen of Finland: A few words about the Sealyham I put up as the Group Winner. In that show I thought he was the obvious winner, very well constructed and in superb condition. The coats have always been a problem in the breed, but he had exceptionally good coat. It is very seldom one sees a Sealyham of this quality, anywhere in the world.

This is a drawing of Sam that was done by the clever animal artist, Suzie Kirkaldie.

As a puppy Sam showed amazing promise and at his very first outing in the show ring in 1997 at the Auckland Kennel Council Show under Mrs F MacDonald of NSW he won Best Baby Puppy In Show. We then decided to send him to Australia for a year and he winged his way across to well known Westie breeder Lyn Brown in NSW. Under Lyn’s care he took Best of Breed at both the Sydney Royal and the Melbourne Royal and did some nice group winning. He then came back home to us and the winning never stopped.  Seven Reserve In Shows and Six Best In Shows plus many other In Show and In Group awards.  These awards were won under some very prestigious judges. Britta Roos-Borjeson of Sweden (a Sealyham owner), Mr Adrian Walmsley of NSW, another well known Sealyham breeder and owner to name a few. Under Ms Juanita Crawford of S. Africa he again took out a BIS and Juanita is a very well known and respected Staffordshire Bull Terrier Breeder (Crossbow). We had a huge contingent of Staffies to beat that day. Sam also won Best of Group at the PAL Nationals in 2000 under Paula Heikkinen-Lehkinen of Finland.  Again in 2003 he won Best NZ Bred of Group at the Nationals under Mr C W Who of Malaysia. His last Best In Show was under Ms Susan Brown of Queensland at the Southern Ladies Kennel Assoc in Dunedin.
